With the MR2 shifter and park brake handle in place, I can finish cutting and welding the VW bug’s main console assembly.

  1. hey tim, my name is Emmanuel and I’m a soldier out in Iraq right now. I’m planning on doing some thing very similar to what your are doing on my 68 bug when i get back. i was wondering if it would be posible for you to get some type of list of parts that you have used to make this happen(the little stuff that nobody thinks about till they need it) because it is very hard to see the videos because of how slow the internet is here. and maybe some pics on an email. thanks and good luck on the project

    • Emmanuel,
Thank you for your service to our great country.
As far as a parts list goes, I have basically built this thing from the big stuff down to the little stuff. My main plan has been to gobble up a donor car. I am using a 91 Toyota MR2 turbo that I found in a salvage yard. I guess any car can be used but I chose the MR2 because of the mid/rear engine configuration. If you find a decent running vehicle you could probably get away with a fairly inexpensive build. I, however, have built the motor for 400 HP which calls for beefed up engine parts $$$.

Anyway, I believe the best approach is to use a donor because you really have everything you need. I have rebuilt or exchanged (core charge) most of the components to be somewhat new.

Just keep thinking ahead to insure all the plumbing and wiring will fit as you go.

      I hope this helped.
Keep in touch and stay safe.
      Tim
