Finish e-brake install steering rack & rear brake line #363
Posted on January 31st, 2012 by Tim in VW Beetle Turbo Build
The e-brakes have now been cabled up and I got my new rebuilt steering rack in. I have installed the steering rack and it works very good. I have a lot to do before I can put the VW bug body back on.

Rolling painted frame starting e-brakes #362
Posted on January 25th, 2012 by Tim in VW Beetle Turbo Build
I now have a painted rolling chassis. It indeed looks a whole lot better with paint. The now slow and steady march to assembly starts with the parking brakes. I have to shorten the cables so I cut them and will fray and soldier the ends to the correct length.

The VW bug frame is finally painted Start reinstall #361
Posted on January 23rd, 2012 by Tim in VW Beetle Turbo Build
With the priming and filling complete, I can now spray on the Eastwood heavy duty chassis paint. I have given the paint about a week to fully cure so now it's time to start bolting things back on. I have reinstalled the front running gear so that the frame can roll back over the engine [...]

Finish priming the custom VW bug chassis #360
Posted on January 13th, 2012 by Tim in VW Beetle Turbo Build
Finally paint. I can finally put paint to frame. This has been a long time coming. I hope I didn’t forget anything. The primer is Eastwood’s rust encapsulator to insure that the frame will not rust. The primer has been forced, as best I could, into all the cracks and crevices. I will now need [...]

Start priming and filling the VW bug frame #359

I am basically ready to paint the upper half of the frame. I have filled and sanded down everything that needs it. All I have to do is wipe the frame down and apply the primer.

Finish cutting pass-through holes in VW bug frame #358
Posted on December 12th, 2011 by Tim in VW Beetle Turbo Build
One step closer to paint. I now have all the holes drilled in the rear fire-wall as well as getting the shifter cables lined up. I need to strip it all down and get ready for paint.
Start cutting pass-through holes in rear fire-wall #357
Posted on November 30th, 2011 by Tim in VW Beetle Turbo Build
I need to drill out the holes in the rear fire-wall for various tubes. There is a gas tank filler neck tube, two holes for the heater core runs, two holes for the A/C runs, one hole for the hydraulic clutch line and one for the rear brake line. Once all these holes have been [...]

E-brake cable runs inside of the VW bug frame #356
Posted on November 15th, 2011 by Tim in VW Beetle Turbo Build
Before I can paint the top of the frame there is a couple of things I gotta do. The e-brake cable run partially inside the frame and partially outside. So I am creating a couple of brackets to hold the nylon cable guides to route the cables to the lever assembly.
