I have decided on the plan to mount the MR2’s steering wheel in the VW bug. I will build a support that is attached from one side of the interior sheetmetal to the other. This support will be made of a piece of 2×2 angle iron and two pieces of 10 gauge flat steel. It will take a little while to get everything in the right position.

I live in Rowlett, TX and I have a 66 bug I want to customize (Rod it – no fenders big tires). I found your site because I don’t want to use the bug swing axle rear end, and VW trans, if I can avoid it. I don’t have a vw engine and am considering the Subaru 2.2 or 2.5. I would to get your opinion on some build options that would be realistic for me (I don’t have the welding skills yet). Anyway, if you live around Dallas and need some free labor I am eager to learn and pick your brain.
