VW bug AC unit install & core lines #427

After making sure that my brackets fit OK, I removed and painted them. The AC unit is now in for good and I can start to route the plumbing. 1st up is the heater core, this proved to be challenging, I used -10AN braided steel lines to snake through the chassis and attach to the core as well as the outputs on the engine block.

VW bug coolant lines & AC unit install #426

While I am waiting on the throttle cable to be made, I can start installing the classic auto air unit. The toyota air conditioning unit is way too big to fit in the VW foot-box. The plumbing and everything else still needs to be figured out.

VW bug coolant lines & throttle cable #425

I am still plumbing up the engine. I must have a throtle cable manufactured soon, so I am using some semi-rigis tubing to mock up the length of the cable sheath. Once I have the sheath length then I can determine the cable length. I will create a diagram to send to the cable manufacurer for them to build the custom cable.

VW bug turbo oil lines complete #424

Engine pumbing continues. The turbo oil lines are complete although I will put an oil pump on the return later. There is still alot of plumbing left to do and wiring as well. All I can do is keep moving on and I hope some day I will get the engine running.

Work on the VW bug turbo & engine plumbing #423

Plumbing, plumbing, plumbing. There is more plumbing on this engine than in a house. The main hard-line tubing assembly has been modified to remove all of the nipples for the water cooled turbo as well as the water cooled throttle body. This plumbing will take awhile but its gotta be done.

Mount and start VW bug turbo plumbing #422

I now have the turbo installed and connected to the intake plenum. I need oil to my turbo so I have a 4an inlet from the block and a 10an hose for the return to the oil pan. I will have to install an oil pump later for the force return to the oil pan. So far so good everything seems to be lining up nicely.

VW bug custom exhaust complete #421

Now that I have all of my turbo parts painted and the gaskets in, I can go ahead and assemble everything. I started with putting some high temp heat barrier between the turbo bracket and the frame. I also put in the gaskets and bolted it all together. Next up the turbo…

VW bug custom exhaust ready for install #420

One step closer to finishing up the turbo exhaust plumbing. I have had the header and downpipe completely sealed up by a local shop using TIG welds. As I put everything together I am porting out the inside of all the components. All I need is gaskets and and a few bolts to complete the custom exhaust.
