With the steering column bracket complete, I will need to create support brackets for the two main pedals. The clutch and the brake pedal will need strong support to keep them from moving around. I am planning on creating 2 brackets that will be attached to the steering column bracket. I am making them from foam board and will transfer the profiles to steel.

Finish the VW bug steering column bracket #297
Test fit the VW bug seat assembly #270
I now have the entire seat assembly fit into the VW bug’s passenger compartment. I fits really well and there will be plenty of room for the pedals and footbox. The seats are pushed back as far as I can get them and still fit the fuel cell. The shoulder location when sitting in the seats is at the widest location of the bug’s interior, it’s still a snug fit.
Finish the VW bug seat mount brackets #269
VW bug seat positioning and brackets #268
I am finishing up the mounting location brackets for the VW bug’s fuel cell. I have also fine tuned the seat locations and taken the critical measurments so I can start building the seat mounting brackets. After the brackets are bolted to the seats I can fit the entire assembly back in the car to fine tune their locations.

Rebuild drivers steering rack bracket- plan pass side #238
My first attempt at making the MR2 steering rack bracket came up a bit short. I made the bracket a bit too large. I remade the bracket and it fits great now. Now that I have the drivers side bracket in place I need to plan out the passenger side. I believe I will make this bracket from some 1.5″x1.5″ square tubing with a piece of hard rubber sheeting in between.
Mount pump and locate steering rack on steel plate #235
I cut a steel plate the same size as my foam template and then determined where the MR2 steering rack should be located. I then cut a hole in the steel plate for the MR2 power steering pump. I went ahead and mounted the pump to the plate. I will now align everything and create the brackets for the rack itself.
