VW bug rear strut top cross-member in place #180
Start to create the VW bug’s rear strut top cross-member #179
Determine the mount angle of the rear cross-member #178
I have now positioned both VW bug strut mounts on the struts and compressed the assembly with the uni-strut. I am using 2 – 800lb. capacity turn buckles, some chain and a big “S” hook to compress the entire rear end. The engine cradle is now up off the platform and is supported only by the rear strut springs. I can’t use the uni-strut for the frame member so I need to cut a pipe to fit. After I determine the mount angle I can cut this piece.
Both rear VW bug strut mounts complete #177
Cut out the VW bug’s rear strut mount rubber washer #176
Plasma cut rear VW bug strut mount piece #175
Create 1 complete vw bug rear strut mount #174
All 4 VW bug strut springs have been clearanced #173
Plasma cut the front spring hole clearance in bug body #172
After determining the exact position of the front strut tops, I need to clearance them for the springs. I used the same small round foam template I used for the rear springs to draw out where the holes should be and then cut them out with the plasma cutter. I will probably need to cut them a bit more to get a good fit.
