With the VW’s driver side motor mount in place I must create the passenger side motor mount. I have cut out a piece of the foam board to match the desired profile of the 3SGTE’s passenger side motor mount.

After carefully aligning the 3SGTE’s driver side motor mount, I can now tack weld it on to the VW Bug’s frame and remove the shop crane. I am planning the same technique for the passenger side motor mount.

Cut out driver side 3SGTE motor mount with plasma cutter #76

I transferred the profile of the 3SGTE motor mount template to my steel tube. I am now cutting out the bracket with my plasma cutter.

With the VW rear frame plates in place, I can now create the 3SGTE motor mounts. I have created the foam template for the driver side motor mount and will transfer this profile to the steel pipe I plan to use.

Fine tune VW Bug frame align plan 3SGTE motor mounts #74

With the Toyota MR2 rear cross-member bolted to the VW Bug frame, I need to do some fine tuning on the entire rear end engine cradle. I will construct the 3SGTE motor mounts once everything is perfectly aligned.

Bolt on VW frame plates to MR2 rear cross-member and align #73

Both of the VW fame plate saddle mounts have been finished. I have now bolted the frame plates to the MR2’s rear cross-member. Everything seems to fit nicely. I ca now develop the 3SGTE motor mounts.

Finish drilling out the VW pass side rear cross-member frame holes #72

I have now finished drilling out both the driver and passenger side VW Bug plate frame holes. These four holes will be used to mount the plate frames to the Toyota MR2 crossmember. I still need to remove the steel above each bolt hole (where the nuts sit) in order to refit the frame plates. There are pictures of the steel removal on the pictures page at the top.

I am repeating the saddle block process on the VW Bug passenger plate frame unit. I must bolt these members to the Toyota MR2 cross-member.
