VW bug turbo exhaust continues #418

I have now completed the exhaust run from the head to the T3 flange input to the turbo. I have one piece left to install, a 6″ flex coupling to increase the flexability of the exhaust because the turbo is solid mounted to the frame. Once this piece is delivered I will complete the exhaust. You can also see the custom intake mounted to the head.

Building the VW Bug custom intake continues #414

I have bolted the mounting plate to the fiber spacer plate and smoothed out the transition. I also cut out the 4 intake runners and made sure that they are exactly the same size and shape. I tacked all 4 runners onto the mounting plate and then held the main intake tube up to the runners and marked the back side for where the holes should be. I will now cut out the holes, small at first, and then tack it all together.

VW Bug MR2 The 3SGTE motor hanging free on motor mounts #87

The Toyota 3SGTE motor is now fully supported by the new motor mounts. The whole rear assembly is basically being supported by 2-2×4 supports on the rear and the platform in front of the engine cradle. The motor mounts are just tacked in place right now, but I will be removing the plate frames once again to finish all the welding.

Damn I can work fast when I want to. This video reminds me of an old Benny Hill episode. I am lifting up the 3SGTE passenger side motor mount with the shop crane to bring the engine up off the support blocking. I will then tack the brackets in place on the VW bug frame.

After cutting out the VW Bug 3SGTE motor mount pieces with the plasma cutter, I can now line them up with the engine and the frame. I must trim the pieces a bit before I can hang this motor mount from the shop crane like I did with the drivers side.

After cutting out the 3SGTE motor mount pieces with the plasma cutter, I will now drill out for the bolt hole. The holes in the VW Bug motor mount need to be exactly in the same location on each side of the mount. I have clamped them together back to back to insure the hole is the same on each side.
