Wow video 500!. Work continues on the VW bug’s interior paneling. After constructing the rear side pieces I need to build a rear wall / firewall to close off the engine bay from the interior. I am using a couple of cross braces attached to the fuel tank and the side structure to create a panel between the two sides. This rear panel will contain both sub woofers, one behind each seat. I am also insulating this panel very well for both heat and sound.

I have now completed closing in the front foot box area. I built 2 aluminum plates to cover the side openings and then covered the entire interior of the foot box with rubberized dampening material. With the front now complete I need to build the rear portion of the interior of the bug. I am building a panel or deck to hide the engine cover and to incorporate my rear speakers.

With the dash-board now working I need to try and finish up the entire foot-box area. The Toyota gas pedal pivot or fulcrum broke when I stepped on the pedal. I have rebuilt this pivot with steel and I beefed up the pedal rod itself. I also removed and lubed the cable so now everything is working great. I must close off the interior wiring channels to separate them from the foot-box area. I am building a couple of aluminum panels to do this.

The dashboard has finally been installed and I think it looks great. Everything inside is extremely tight so It took quite awhile to complete. So far so good everything seems to be working. I also show a bit of a preview of the rear interior build out.

Lots of work has gone into the dash board. before I can mount it for good “this time” I must clean up and seal the rear dash panel as well as wrap all of the wiring harnesses. I have finished the dash board off with some water based bed liner and am now ready to install it.

I have finally sealed up all the floorboards and can refocus on the dashboard. I must cap the ends of the dash panel and vents as well as create a glove box and door. I used the same aluminum as the dash panel to create the caps and will use MDF for the glove box door.

The center console will hold the stereo amplifier/stereo as well as the window switches and other wiring. I finally have the console paneling done as well. The console is basically complete and now I need to finish up the dashboard with the addition of the glove box and finishing up all the edges.

With the wiring in the front firewall complete, I can now reinstall the firewall panels. With the panels in I can reinstall the center console, the console requires a bit of wiring as well. I have the window switches and sundries which need to connect the firewall wiring harnesses.

All my concentrations is now on the center console. Fitting all the panels and completing all the wiring has been tedious. So with the lower portion of the dash and console mostly complete, I have to finish the upper dash panel. I still need to wrap the ends of the dash, mount AC vents as well as add a glove box.

Now that the door electronics are functioning properly, I must return to the center console. The center console is going to be challenging, there are so many devices to fit and wire up. First, I must come up with a general design. Since the inside of the bug is tight, I must minimalize, but still fit everything I want.
