VW bug speedo cable and Air conditioning #430

I was going to install the motion pro throttle cable but they made it with 1.5mm cable and it was supposed to be 2mm. I sent it back to be remade and am carrying on with the AC line installation. After shopping for everything I may need, I have started by getting the main lines that travel through the chassis, crimped on. I have also finished the coolant plumbing to the block from the radiator.

VW bug’s front nose compartment continues #429

The radiator and main coolant tubing is now complete. I am almost finished with all the plumbing in the bug’s front nose compartment. The MR2’s electrical power steering requires both a supply line as well as a return line. The supply simply dumps into the pump but the return comes off the rack and returns into the reservoir. I will be removing the radiator so I can finish everything behind it.

Plan out the VW bug’s front nose compartment #428

Now with the AC unit installed, I am working on the VW bug’s front nose compartment. There are quite a few things to fit in this area (AC lines, battery, fuse box, power steering reservoir, overflow bottle etc.). I finished mounting the power steering reservoir, so next up is the overflow bottle. I am trying to plan everything out so it fits and I can get to it.

VW bug AC unit install & core lines #427

After making sure that my brackets fit OK, I removed and painted them. The AC unit is now in for good and I can start to route the plumbing. 1st up is the heater core, this proved to be challenging, I used -10AN braided steel lines to snake through the chassis and attach to the core as well as the outputs on the engine block.

VW bug coolant lines & AC unit install #426

While I am waiting on the throttle cable to be made, I can start installing the classic auto air unit. The toyota air conditioning unit is way too big to fit in the VW foot-box. The plumbing and everything else still needs to be figured out.
