Bug – Fuel Cell – Shift cables – Rear end – Flooring #438

I am taking some time to go over the rear end and make sure that everything is tight. I have also prepped the fuel cell for installation. I am going to work on flooring in the passenger compartment before installing the fuel system. Panel 1 down ready for panel 2.

Bug – Fuel Cell – Bat box – front springs – Shift cables #437

I am kind of jumping around in this video. I got some new front springs in so I have to put them on I hope these springs will the bug a smoother ride. They look great and seem to be exactly what I need. I am also trying to seal up the fuel cell box. The fuel feed and return lines now have a rubber seal to close off the fuel box from the engine compartment. I also need to seal up the hole for the shift cables. I am using the same idea for those.

Finish VW bug front electrical – build battery box #436

The front wiring harness has now been wrapped and installed and most of the connectors have been connected. I have also finished mounting the fuse box and the battery box is close. I am spraying bed liner on the inside of the battery box before I reinstall it. All and all the front of the VW turbo bug is close to bring finished.

Close to finishing the VW bug front electrical #435

Focus returns to the front wiring loom. I have basically mounted all of the electrical boxes and have run the wires to them. I have all the wires tied up in various running groups to try and minimize the wire bundles. The fuse box has also been mounted. Getting closer to finishing the front end of the VW bug.

VW bug front electrical continued – Gas cap #434

I am still working on the VW bug’s front nose electrical but I got my gas filler neck in and I want to install it. I cut the tube from the neck and affixed it ti the mounting plate and decorative cover. I then bolted it up where it needs to be and welded the new neck to the cap unit. I think the gas cap will look really good on the side of the bug.

With the VW bug’s front plumbing complete, I can now concentrate on the wiring. Luckily I have the complete Toyota MR2 service/wiring manual set to determine what everything is. I need to determine where all of the boxes need to be (ECUs, Relays etc.) and how to route the correct wires to their locations. The length of the harness will establish the location of each box. Did I mention “concentration”.

I have now finished all of the front nose compartment plumbing. I finished my overflow bottle and all of the AC lines. All of the mounting brackets have been cleaned up and painted so next up is the electrical…ugg.

VW bug Air conditioning mockup #431

Front nose plumbing continues, I am working on the AC drier and lines. I mounted the drier and measured and cut the lines and then had them crimped on at Pirtex in Plano. I also insulated the lines from the condenser. Everything is now mocked up on the AC.

VW bug speedo cable and Air conditioning #430

I was going to install the motion pro throttle cable but they made it with 1.5mm cable and it was supposed to be 2mm. I sent it back to be remade and am carrying on with the AC line installation. After shopping for everything I may need, I have started by getting the main lines that travel through the chassis, crimped on. I have also finished the coolant plumbing to the block from the radiator.

VW bug’s front nose compartment continues #429

The radiator and main coolant tubing is now complete. I am almost finished with all the plumbing in the bug’s front nose compartment. The MR2’s electrical power steering requires both a supply line as well as a return line. The supply simply dumps into the pump but the return comes off the rack and returns into the reservoir. I will be removing the radiator so I can finish everything behind it.
