With both the front and rear aprons on, I can start mock-up on one complete side of the VW bug. I searched high and wide to find some hints on widening fenders, found none, this is how I am doing it. I am installing small support tabs to try and shape the fender. I will finish widening the fenders and running-board with small steel plates.
Very nice! How wide did you go on the rears? I noticed at the top of the fender it’s at The max width you wanted. And narrows as it goes to the bottom. How did you figure out those measurements?
I didn’t want to widen the running boards much so I pushed the top to 3.5 inches and brought it in to just over 2 inches at the bottoms. I clamped the fender on and moved it around until I liked the way it looked.
