VW Bug’s Turbo mount plate continued #411

I have now traced the foam pattern onto some 3/6″ steel plate. I cut 1/16″ deep lines in the plate where the bend points are. I bent the plate and am now fitting it into place. I went ahead and mounted the waste gate adapter to the plate and will now cut out the center and trim it up a bit.

Start building the VW Bug’s Turbo mount plate #410

My turbo will be hard-mounted to the frame in the rear of the car. I am building a bracket to hold the turbo in place. The bracket will be made from steel but I am creating a template from a piece of foam board material. Once I get this exactly as I want it, I will then make it from steel.

Start plumbing up the VW bug’s Turbo #409

Turbo set up continues, I finally got in the 4″ long flex connector for the exhaust. I will need to build a mounting plate to hold the turbo in position and then connect all of the exhaust pipes and intake pipes as well as build the intake.

Start to set up the VW bug turbo system #408

Now with the brakes complete, I can focus on getting the engine running. first up is getting the turbo mounted and plumbed. I am planning on solid mounting the VW bug turbo so the exhaust pipe wil need to be flexible. I am planning on inserting 2 flex connectors to accomplish this.

Vw bug rolling now with brakes #407

I have now completed the brakes. I just had to push it down the block and take a few pictures of it. I discovered, after the fact, that I did not have much usable video. It does roll and stop very well.

VW bug brakes finished and bled #406

The brakes are complete. After installing the rebuilt master cylinder I filled it up and bled all the lines. One more bleeding and I can put the wheels back on and roll and stop it.

Rebuild Brake Master Cylinder & clear ABS unit #405

With all of the brake lines now complete, I need to rebuild the master cylinder and paint it. I am alos flushing out the ABS unit. I am using a vacuum pump to draw brake fluid through the pump. I can then put it all together and fill it up.

Finish installing the rear brake lines #404

I now have the rear brake lines installed. All of the brake lines are now complete, so it’s time to fill it up and see if it works.

Work on the VW bug rear brake lines #403

Now that the front brake lines have been constructed, I can focus on the rears. After building and painting the brackets to hold the flex lines, I have constructed the drivers side rear brake hard line. One more to go and the brakes are complete.

Front brake lines complete focus on rear lines #402

I now have the front brake lines complete. I have all the bolts in and the new brackets have been painted. It is now time to focus on the rear brake lines. Once the flex lines are complete, the hard lines will then be constructed.
