I am putting the finishing touches on the motor. I have completed the vacuum lines as well as the intake plenum. I have also gone over all the wiring and am now pretty much finished with the motor. I am past ready to start this thing.

VW bug MR2 wiring complete plumbing cont. #448

The wiring is close to completion, I will check most of the systems before I connect the computer. I still need to finish the ABS sensors and I am also still working on the plumbing. Getting very close to starting the engine.

Finish VW bug console and wiring #447

With most of the wiring figured out, I still have a few wires that will travel through the center console. Before I do this I want to finalize the console and paint it. So I completed the shifter cable location through the rear firewall as well as the front of the fuel box. I trimmed the console down repainted and reinstalled it. I also completed the fuel level sending unit and fuel pump wire harness. Getting closer.

Wiring Vipec and aftermarket gauges #446

Wiring, wiring, wiring. The wiring never seems to stop I am getting closer, however. I now have the engine close to being finished and I now need to focus on the aftermarket gauges. It took awhile but I now have them wired up and mounted to a temporary panel hanging from the dash.

Wire Vipec into VW MR2 wiring harness #445

Engine compartment wiring continues. After removing all of the wires that I won’t be able to use from the MR2 harness, I am replacing many of them with the Vi-pec harness. There are so many engine control systems to install it is getting a bit over whelming.

VW bug wideband O2 and vacuum lines #444

The 3SGTE engine control consists of vacuum lines as well as all the electrical wiring. One crucial engine control element is the wideband O2 sensor. It sits in the exhaust to monitor fuel usage and adjusts the fuel table accordingly. Also the vacuum lines to control things like the turbo boost, MAP and fuel pressure, I have mocked them up with some vinyl tubing to be replaced by silicone later.

Toyota MR2 wire harness in VW bug #443

With the dash board wiring harness, somewhat, in place, I am running in the engine harness. This harness connects to the front harness in the driver side foot-box. I used Dawn dish soap to clean all the gunk off the wires. This is going to take a while.

VW bug Main dashboard wiring #442

I am now returning to the VW bug’s wiring harnesses. I am laying in the front dashboard harness which is quite large to say the least. I removed the radio and heater/AC systems to try and make the harness a bit more manageable. I basically have all the front wires close to their final locations so now I need to start running the rear engine harness.

Install and plumb up the VW bug fuel system #441

With the flooring almost complete, I am going ahead and installing the fuel system. I now have all of the braided steel lines in place and connected to my high-flow fuel rail and big injectors. The VW bug’s fuel system is now complete .
